…that Passau’s city arms of, the “Passauer Wolf”, became known by armaments?

Originally the wolf was the heraldic animal of Bishop Wolfger. At the end of the 13th century trades developed that defined Passau for a long time. Passauer armaments enjoyed a far distribution such as sword blades, muzzle-loading firearms or spearheads. As proof of origin the “Passauer Wolf” was imprinted on the metal. Iron was processed that was towed  on rafts from styrian cities upstream. The names of several streets and alleys remember on the forges of Passau: Klingergasse (alley of blades), Messergasse (lane of knives), Gablergasse (street of forks), Schlosserstiege (stairway of metalworkers) and Zinngießergässchen (alley of tinsmiths).
