From the west comes the Danube. It starts with the joining of two streams, the Brigach and the Breg at Donaueschingen in the Black Forest. When the Danube reaches Passau it has already flown 630 km and has another 2,227 km to go before it reaches the Black Sea. After the Volga it is the 2nd largest river in Europe. On its way, it touches or flows through a total of ten countries, more than any other stream in the world (Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova, Ukraine). Its delta extends over 5,800 km² and is 80% in Romania and 20% in Ukraine).
The river Inn is coming from the south and joins the other rivers in Passau after flowing 517 km from its spring at a height of 2,484 m in Graubünden near the Maloja Pass. It is one of the most important rivers in the Alps. Its verifying capacity of water is the main reason for the floods in Passau. While on average the Inn leads about 640 m³ / s into the Danube, the flood level in 2013 was approximately 7,000 m³ / s.
From the north we have the river Ilz. It is actually a lot of small streams which join together in the Bavarian Woods between the mountains Rachel and Lusen. It is the smallest river at 65 km.
