The small pedestrian and cyclist bridge over the river Inn was built in 1916 because the citizens of Passau wanted a quicker way to the city cemetery on the other side of the river. The original name of the footbridge was “Hindenburgsteg”. To cover the cost of building and later the repairing of the bridge the company formed the “Passauer Innsteg AG”. The company required the users until 1976 to pay a toll of 5 pennies. Now you know where the name comes from.
The tollhouse on the left bridgehead is now a restaurant.
